  • The town of Pallamallawa
Situated on the banks of the Gwydir River, Pallamallawa is a thriving local community just 32kms east of Moree.

Taking its name from the local Aboriginal word for 'Dry Waterhole', Pallamallawa lies just 2km off the Gwydir Highway and is surrounded by cotton, wheat, livestock, general cropping farms and the largest pecan farm in the Southern Hemisphere.

Against the general trend of population drift to larger areas, Pallamallawa is maintaing its population and has a vibrant community involved in a multitude of sporting and cultural activities. Football, touch football, Tennis, Polo Crosse, Motocross and Fishing provide lots of exciting outdoor activities for the whole family. Horse sports are a popular pastime and the Pallamallawa Rodeo 'Spider on the Gwydir' is a highlight on the local calendar with rodeo fans coming from far and wide to soak up the excitment of the rodeo ring. The Pallamallawa Fishing competition is also a wonderful experience with big fish and great prizes being the order of the day.

As in most rural communities, rain is a much celebrated event but in Pally, as the locals call it, they really take it seriously! The rainfall in Pallamallawa has been officiallly recorded every day since 1913, an astounding 90 plus years! This is a community where good old country values are alive and well, so make sure you call in when you visit the Moree Shire.
