Parks & Gardens Peaceful & Relaxing...
Why not take advantage of one of Moree's parks and gardens?
From the peaceful relaxing picnic lunch to the spirited bushwalk,
there is a park setting all to enjoy in Moree
Parks
Mary Brand Park, on the banks of the Mehi River, holds great siginificance for the Moree area as Mary Brand was the first hotelier and storekeeper in the Moree district. Originally, the park featured a traditional four room slab hut, 'Meei Cottage', surrounded by a few century-old fig trees. Today, it is a beautiful spot to relax by the gently winding river and observe the varied bird and wildlife, right in the heart of Moree.
On the opposite river bank lies Moree's newest park, The Max Wales Memorial Park, named for Moree's son who lost his life at the Battle of Long Tan, Vietnam. This peaceful location features 18 delicate rose bushes planted in memory of the 18 courageous young Australian men who died in the tragic battle.
Resplendent with magnificent eucalyptus and jacarandas, Jellicoe Park comes alive on the first Sunday of each month with the fabulous Moree markets.
In a setting of beautiful white & rose pink bauhinias, Kirkby Park features the heritage-listed Moree Band Rotunda which is still in use today. Known colloquially as the "Rocket Park", it also features a distinctive rocket which is one of only three still standing in Australia.
Lyle Houlahan Park, located next to the Moree Visitors Information Centre, has outdoor table settings and BBQ's available for your use and enjoyment.
Open Garden Scheme
Immerse yourself in the breath-taking surrounds of Moree's picturesque open gardens which feature some of the oldest and most significant homesteads and gardens. Sitting atop some of the worlds richest alluvial soil allows our local gardeners the unqiue opportunity to plant and maintain Australian and international plants, shrubs and trees. With a history rich in horticultural experience, Moree is fortunate to have many participants in the national Open Garden Scheme. For dates and detailed directions, please contact the Moree Visitors' Information Centre on 02 6757 3350.
